The Must Do Miami Attractions
Article by Paul Buchanan
Situated on Florida’s Gold Coast, Miami is a city of contrasts which work well together to make a holiday destination that truly is one in a million. Thanks to Florida’s year-round warm weather and record-breaking number of sunshine hours, Miami benefits from an almost tropical climate but comes complete with all of the luxuries and attractions of a major city. From international sports events to shopping in celebrity style and lounging on the beach, Miami is perhaps the ultimate sun seeker’s getaway.
For families, Miami is a superb place to bring children of any age on holiday, as attractions like the famous Miami Seaquarium are legendary. Located right in the centre of the city’s main tourist stretch, the Seaquarium is able to host a show unlike any other thanks to Miami’s glorious year-round climate. In fact, the city and Florida in general play host to many exciting theme parks and family-orientated attractions.
Of course, Miami is famous for its many stylish designer stores, so spending your holiday cash will never be a problem. Head to Lincoln Road South Beach for the city’s most exclusive stores, and keep an eye out for celebrities too. For a little more choice and probably a lot less money, try the Aventura Mall again on South Beach and, to experience Miami in true style, don’t forget to rent a convertible.
No trip to Miami would be complete though without at least one day at the beach. Thankfully, visitors are spoiled for choice of where to lounge as Miami is blessed with many great beaches, each with their own unique character. For the popular spots, head to either South or Central Miami Beach, where joggers own the esplanade and volleyball games are never far away, however Crandon and Haulover Beaches are both superb for families; quiet, secluded and with safe waters. Surfers should head to Hobie Beach though for the best waves, and top views of the city behind you too.
As well as its aquarium, Miami is a great place to see all manner of wild animals. The Miami Metro Zoo is one of America’s top zoos, and as such is not to be missed by animal lovers. Again the climate means the zoo is full of exotic animals that often can’t be kept elsewhere, and the zoo is entirely cageless and keeps animals together much like they would be in the wild.
For even more hair-raising wildlife pursuits though take a trip to the Everglades. Part of Florida State’s National Park, the Everglades are home to many common and endangered species, not least the American Crocodile and the Florida Panther.
Miami hotels range from boutique getaways to opulent and extravagant 5-star retreats, however the city offers something for everyone in the way of accommodation. And of course, fresh, local produce is always dish of the day at many of the city’s finest restaurants.
